about checkbox..

i dont know if its proper to ask my question here...but i really need help..
how can i get the value of the checked ckeckbox? the checkboxes are generated as the results match the search id.. user can only ckeck 1.. but the search engine can display as many as 10 results meaning 10 checkboxes..
im sorry if my question is quite confusing..
