form validator code not working

hii yahh !
the form validator code that is on the website does not seem to work ?? ii dont know whyyy ??
it says as the following

Warning: Unexpected character in input: '\' (ASCII=92) state=1 in /home/05800437/public_html/php/registration.php on line 7
Parse error: parse error in /home/05800437/public_html/php/registration.php on line 9

I've just tested the code taken from the form validation script page. It worked for me.
Could you have accidentally added other characters to the code?
